Last year, the Toyota Sienna was the second-best-selling minivan in the U.S, trailing the Chrysler Pacifica by less than 9000 units. Toyota is now collaborating with Ohio-based Graeter’s Ice Cream on a minivan-inspired ice cream sandwich to promote its 2026 Toyota Sienna Platinum.
The limited-edition frozen treat is called the “Salted Caramel Chip Wheel,” and it costs $7 for a single serving, with a pack of 12 available for $86. This collaboration is intended to showcase the Sienna’s built-in fridge, known as the FridgeBox, which can be useful for storing snacks and drinks on long road trips, similar to a rugged SUV having ample storage space.
The 2026 Toyota Sienna Platinum comes standard with a FridgeBox, a built-in fridge mounted in the center console, which can hold a dozen of the Toyota Chip Wheels.
Graeter’s Toyota-themed creation combines salted caramel ice cream between two double-chocolate-chip cookies, with the outside rolled in chocolate jimmies. The shape is supposed to resemble a wheel.
Other car companies have also ventured into the food business. In 2022, Porsche partnered with Chicago’s Pretty Cool Ice Cream to create limited-edition ice cream pops inspired by Porsche Paint to Sample colors.
Volkswagen has been making its own currywurst since 1973 and has even created its own Gewürz Ketchup. In 2024, Volkswagen offered bottles of the condiment in the United States as part of its 75th anniversary celebration.
Toyota’s marketing stunt connects directly to a vehicle feature it’s supposed to promote. The idea is to showcase the practicality of the Sienna’s built-in fridge.
In the context of the minivan market, this promotion can be seen as a way for Toyota to differentiate itself from its competitors. By highlighting the Sienna’s unique features, such as the FridgeBox, Toyota aims to appeal to families who value convenience and practicality.
Horsepower figures and Nürburgring lap times may not mean much to the typical minivan shopper, but keeping the kids happy on a long road trip certainly is. And nothing says happiness like ice cream.
The Toyota Sienna’s built-in fridge is a feature that can be particularly useful for families with young children. They value the ability to store snacks and drinks at a cool temperature, which can be a major convenience on long road trips.
Toyota is targeting the right audience with this promotion. It will be interesting to see how their marketing strategy plays out.
The appeal of a minivan-inspired ice cream sandwich may be enough to sway potential buyers. They are looking for a vehicle that can meet their needs, and the Sienna’s unique features may be a major selling point.
