
The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT53 4-Door EV delivers 536 horsepower without a combustion engine—yet it will sound like it has one.
The GT53 fills a gap below six-figure AMG EVs
The new model slots below the GT63 and GT55, both of which start near $140,000. Mercedes hasn’t released pricing for the GT53, but it should come in well under that figure. With 536 hp and 590 pound-feet of torque, it’s claimed to sprint to 60 mph in the mid-three-second range.
Its 106 kWh battery, built on an 800-volt architecture, promises about 423 miles of range. A 10-minute charge at a fast DC station could add roughly 280 miles. Unlike the triple-motor GT63, the GT53 uses two motors—one on each axle.
Mercedes-AMG’s naming conventions have grown more confusing over time. The old system tied badges to engine displacement: a C63 once meant a hand-built V-8. Turbocharging muddied the waters, and electrification erased the rules entirely. Now, a GT53 doesn’t even have an inline-six under the hood.

An electric car that sounds like a straight-six
The GT53 won’t just mimic the power of a turbocharged inline-six—it will mimic the sound. Engineers recorded a real straight-six using 16 microphones, then programmed the EV to play that soundtrack. The result should evoke something closer to a 300SL Gullwing than a silent electric sedan.
Whether the artificial noise will satisfy purists remains an open question. The GT53 offers a more restrained alternative—one that still promises to be quicker and more aerodynamic than its combustion predecessors.
The shift toward electric AMGs reflects a broader industry trend, but Mercedes isn’t abandoning its heritage entirely. The GT53’s sound system might be a gimmick, but it’s one that acknowledges what enthusiasts miss about internal combustion engines. If the car delivers on its promised range and charging speeds, the soundtrack could become a quirky selling point rather than a dealbreaker.
